WASHINGTON, DC — A daughter of holocaust survivors. An attorney who doesn’t shy away from the hardest cases. A medical professional who mobilized her whole network. A major law firm. They all have at least one thing in common: They are warriors for justice.
At Tahirih’s 19th Annual Gala on April 14, 2016, Tahirih’s Greater DC Director, Heather Taylor, shone a light on the diverse group of honorees who displayed exceptional dedication to helping courageous women and girls who refuse to be victims of violence.
In 2015 alone, the Greater DC office protected 810 brave women and girls and their family members through free legal and social services.
They launched the Medical Advocacy Project with the help of Laurie E. Duncan, MD, FACP, MS, to remove barriers to medical services for immigrant survivors of violence. They also trained 2,772 community members and front-line professionals to respond to the unique needs of this vulnerable population.
“These are some exceptional people who take on very different cases and come from different backgrounds, all fighting to protect courageous women and girls,” said Taylor.
None of this would have been possible without the ongoing, incredible work of caring, talented pro bonos: our Tahirih warriors.
