The Tahirih Justice Center is a national, nonprofit organization that serves immigrant survivors fleeing gender-based violence. By amplifying the experiences of survivors in communities, courts, and Congress, Tahirih’s mission is to create a world in which all people share equal rights and live in safety and with dignity.
We provide free, trauma-informed legal representation and social services for survivors of gender-based violence so that they can secure the rights they are entitled to and rebuild their lives in safety.
We seek to amplify the experiences of survivors and pursue systemic change with nonpartisan federal, state, and local policy advocacy, strategic thought leadership, and impact litigation that supports survivors.
We provide thousands of frontline professionals and community members with an understanding of the unique obstacles that immigrant survivors face in the wake of violence, as well as the tools needed to help.
We maintain a 99% litigation success rate despite the complex nature of the cases we accept. Many of our cases have been deemed "unwinnable," so we pioneer in uncharted areas of law.
We turn every $1 into $4 of impact by leveraging the donated services of a network of pro bono professionals that includes more than 2,000 attorneys at 400+ top-ranked law firms.
We are a recognized leader in the fight to end violence against women and girls. Our tested model of service has been successfully replicated in Baltimore, Houston, Greater DC, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
