The Tahirih Justice Center’s Chief of Policy and Programs, Archi Pyati, spoke with The Daily Beast for this story about asylum seekers in the United States who have fled horrific violence in their home countries.
Speaking of the decrease in asylum seekers from January to February and March of this year, Pyati explained:
“If there are people who are being deterred who are in horrible situations and do need safety, then we are violating international law and our obligations by deterring them from coming.”
“Really desperate people will continue to come through, though.”
