supporting
immigrant survivors on their journeys to safety and justice
The Tahirih Justice Center is a national nonprofit organization that serves immigrant women, girls, and all survivors fleeing gender-based violence. By amplifying the experiences of survivors in communities, courts, and Congress, Tahirih aims to create a world in which all people share equal rights and live in safety and with dignity.
A Note from Archi Pyati,
Tahirih Justice Center CEO
I think a lot about hope—how it can be hard to find but how it’s even more important during difficult times. Personally, I find it helpful to focus on what we can do to make today better for just one person.
Rita* waited eight years for an asylum interview, a painfully long time to live without legal protection and justice. Tahirih filed a lawsuit to compel her interview to take place, and we won. Rita said “After my lawyer told me that the interview request was approved, I felt relieved. I thought to myself that finally, I can see a hopeful future. I can finally be on my way to getting a status in this country. Thank you, Tahirih, for fighting for me and others!”
That gives me hope. With your help, Tahirih staff have made a real impact in the lives of many women, girls, and other survivors of gender-based violence.
As an example, in 2023 we provided free legal and social services to more than 2,700 survivors and their families. Fueled by our experience providing services, we drafted and supported state-based and federal legislation to both prevent violence and respond to it. As an example, this year, six states passed new laws restricting child marriage, including three states that ended child marriage entirely—Vermont, Connecticut, and Michigan.
Tahirih speaks up for justice and fairness because everyone deserves to live in safety and with dignity.
Thank you for being with us on this journey to justice.
With appreciation,
