Supporting

immigrant survivors on their journeys to safety and justice

The Tahirih Justice Center is a national nonprofit organization that serves immigrant women, girls, and all survivors fleeing gender-based violence. By amplifying the experiences of survivors in communities, courts, and Congress, Tahirih aims to create a world in which all people share equal rights and live in safety and with dignity.

What does success mean to you?

As I look back on all that we’ve done together in 2024 to support survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence, I’m so proud of what my colleagues at Tahirih have accomplished.

In 2024, our program teams provided free legal and social services to more than 2,900 immigrant survivors and their families, thanks to the support of more than 1,300 pro bono attorneys who co-counseled cases and participated in legal clinics. Through more than 270 training and outreach events, Tahirih shared our expertise with over 19,500 attorneys, advocates, service providers, and community members, amplifying the stories of immigrant survivors of gender-based violence in our communities.

And three more states ended child marriage entirely this year—Washington, New Hampshire, and Virginia, where the Forced Marriage Initiative campaign to end child marriage began.

Those are big victories worth celebrating, but there are so many other stories of success that we can’t as easily measure.

At Tahirih, we like to say our work is client-centered—that means our clients define what success looks like for themselves. Sometimes that means leaving an abusive relationship after safety planning and figuring out the next steps with a Tahirih advocate. Other times, it means making a phone call to schedule therapy or a doctor’s appointment with the support of our social services team. And critically, success looks like winning their immigration case and finally achieving stability for their families.

I continue to be inspired by people like John*, a former client who volunteered at our end-of-year client celebration. He shared that he remembered how much events like this meant to him and he wanted to give back. After receiving his legal permanent residency, his life has significantly changed, and he hopes that he can continue to support Tahirih however he can.

Thank you for supporting Tahirih over the past year and in the months and years to come. It really does make a difference for survivors in ways both big and small.

With appreciation,

I am here as an example to women and mothers, survivors who have done everything possible to protect themselves and protect their children. We can overcome unthinkable situations. Every mother should have the opportunity to fight for justice for themselves and their family. We deserve to be heard and we deserve to be free of violence.
