The reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is stalled in Congress, and we need your help to push VAWA over the finish line!
Take part in the National 10 Days of Action for VAWA. We need you to act now to ensure that Congress passes a Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) that supports all victims and contains no rollbacks to current protections!
Currently, the Senate-passed version of VAWA (S. 1925) expands protections for all survivors of domestic and sexual violence, including much needed provisions to support immigrant victims and strengthen the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act. However, the House version of VAWA rolls back vital protections which have for nearly 20 years enjoyed bipartisan support, and have proven lifesaving for thousands of vulnerable immigrant women and their children.
Please join us during the National 10 Days of Action for VAWA!
Are you in the DC area? Donate your lunch break to show support for reauthorization of this critical legislation. Join Tahirih at a rally at the U.S. Capitol from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 26 at 1st Street and Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC. Take a stand against domestic and sexual violence.
Not in DC? Call or email your members of Congress on June 26, and drop by their in-district offices when they are home from July 2 to July 6 for the Fourth of July holiday. Tell them to support passage of S. 1925, by passing on two straightforward and simple messages:
- I urge you as my elected representative to support a bipartisan VAWA reauthorization bill, like S. 1925, that protects ALL victims of violence, contains no rollbacks on current protections, and ensures that VAWA programs and services can continue to serve victims and make our communities safer.
- Senate and House leadership needs to move on VAWA quickly—doing nothing is not an option!
