Jeanne Smoot, Tahirih Director of Public Policy, received the 2008 Agent of Change Award from the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance.
The award recognizes Smoot for her outstanding efforts toward providing “both the foundation for advocacy and skilled advocacy on legal and policy issues related to the rights and protection of immigrant women who are victims of sexual and domestic violence.”
Smoot is a graduate of Harvard University Law School and Harvard-Radcliffe College, and she obtained a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. As the director of Tahirih’s public policy team, she fights to reduce vulnerabilities of immigrant women and girls and to empower them as survivors.
