FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 30, 2024

Los Altos, CA — On August 17, 2024, Aaron Bao, a junior at the Harker School in San Jose, California, will host “Soaring in Concert” to support the Tahirih Justice Center. This year’s event aims to raise $30,000 to aid immigrant survivors of gender-based violence, which includes intimate partner violence, sexual violence, forced marriage, and human trafficking.

“When I was introduced to Tahirih Justice Center and the crucial work that they do, I was moved by the stories of survivors and the aid that Tahirih was able to grant them to move past the trauma and abuse they endured. Tahirih continues to fight on the frontlines for immigrant survivors of violence. In the face of ever-changing immigration policies, the need to provide legal services for asylum seekers is urgent. I was moved to help in whatever way I could, and after the overwhelming support from the community for the first benefit concert, I was inspired to organize this year’s concert,” said Aaron Bao.

The concert will take place at the Community School of Music and Arts at Finn Center on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Doors open at 2:30 pm. The evening promises a lineup of exceptional performances by renowned musicians including:

  • Shayla He, Vocalist-Songwriter, nominated for 2022 Hollywood Music in Media Awards and 2023 YoungArts Winner;
  • Victoria Huang, Pianist, placed 1st Place at the 2023 International Grand Virtuoso Competition; and
  • Christine Zhao, Flutist, selected for 2023 Tampere Flute Festival and Stanford Flute Ensemble.

“Together, we can make a difference. By participating in this event, you are directly contributing to a cause that transforms lives,” said Julie Garza, Major Gifts Officer at Tahirih Justice Center. “Your support enables Tahirih to provide essential services to survivors and advocate for a world where everyone can live free from violence and injustice.
