Master of Ceremonies, Meredith Vieira, welcomed the crowd of 600, who trekked from D.C., New York, Chicago, Texas, and California, to Tahirih’s biggest Gala ever, an evening that would honor courageous women and girls who are demanding freedom from violence, and celebrate the commitment of every single person in the room to the fight for justice.
“No matter where we come from or what our connection is to Tahirih, we are united by our belief in the equality of women and men and we are here to support the Tahirih Justice Center who is on the front lines of ending the epidemic of violence against women.”
Andy Grammer, masterful entertainer and longtime Tahirih Ambassador, began the night by singing a Bahá’í prayer illustrating the beauty of humanity’s oneness and journey to equality. During the event guests could find him all over the ballroom selling bead necklaces to raise money for critical legal and social services supporting Tahirih clients. And to close out the inspirational evening, Andy hopped on stage once more for a mini concert, rousing guests to their feet!

Through Tahirih’s live Fund-A-Need auction, Eva LaRue encouraged supporters from across the nation to raise their paddles and transform lives. Detailing the costs needed to protect children who are coming to the U.S. by themselves, provide legal defense for a victim of human trafficking, train pro bono attorneys to co-counsel cases of girls seeking refuge, and more, she lead guests to the evening’s most exciting moment – when they learned that, because of their support, Tahirih’s 20th Anniversary Gala raised $1,025,000!
