Edward Gallagher has been recognized with Tahirih Houston’s 2014 Advocacy Award for his efforts to combat human trafficking in Houston. He received his award Sept. 20 at the Houstonian Hotel during the 2014 Houston Gala, “Saving Lives, Celebrating Courage.”

Gallagher serves as the Deputy Criminal Chief in the Criminal Division for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.

The Advocacy Award is presented annually to a member of the Houston community who provides exceptional professional leadership in their field and demonstrates excellence in protecting women and girls from violence.

Serving as coordinator of the Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance, Gallagher has increased Tahirih’s capacity to serve women and girls who have escaped horrific violence at the hands of human traffickers.

“Edward works tirelessly as a prosecutor to ensure that law enforcement agencies are effective alongside non-governmental organizations, such as Tahirih, allowing victims to be identified and to receive protections under U.S. laws,” said Tahirih Houston Director Anne Chandler.

Gallagher’s leadership enables women and girls to transform their lives so they can begin to live in safety and with dignity.

“Tahirih Justice Center is grateful for Edward’s commitment to justice for courageous immigrant women and girls in our community and is proud to recognize Edward with our 2014 Advocacy Award,” Chandler said.
