The Hearst Foundations were honored Sept. 20 at the 2014 Tahirih Houston Gala, “Saving Lives, Celebrating Courage,” for their instrumental role in jump-starting Tahirih’s regional office in Houston.
Hearst received Tahirih’s Founder’s Awward.
In 2009, Tahirih expanded nationally, opening its first regional office in Houston thanks to a generous grant from The Hearst Foundations.
The Hearst Foundations are dedicated to funding outstanding non-profits to ensure that people of all backgrounds in the United States have the opportunity to build healthy, productive, and inspiring lives.
Funding from Hearst enabled Tahirih Houston to expand its staff from two individuals in 2009 to 12 today. With increased resources, Tahirih Houston been able to greatly improve the safety and well-being of its most vulnerable neighbors. Annually, Tahirih Houston responds to pleas for help from over 1,100 women and children and empowers over 500 women and children to access justice and rebuild their lives.
This year, Hearst provided another critical investment that enabled Tahirih’s national office to significantly improve and expand its infrastructure and capacity.
