Tahirih Justice Center will present Hogan Lovells LLP and Venable LLP with their awards at its 18th Annual Gala, “Saving Lives, Celebrating Courage,” on Tuesday, April 14, at Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC.
Hogan Lovells LLP and Venable LLP are integral members of Tahirih’s Pro Bono Network, which is made up of more than 1,800 attorneys from 500 top law firms across the country who are committed to helping women and girls flee gender-based human rights abuses, including rape, female genital mutilation, domestic violence, human trafficking, honor crimes, and forced marriage. Attorneys in the network help survivors of violence obtain the legal status they are entitled to under U.S. law. In partnership with Tahirih, they ensure clients receive high-quality legal services at no cost.
By leveraging the donated services of attorneys and other professionals, Tahirih is able to serve hundreds of immigrant women and girls every year and turn every $1 donated into $5 of lifesaving impact. In 2014 alone, Tahirih and its Pro Bono Network provided approximately 600 women and girls in the Greater DC and Baltimore areas with free legal and social services so they could rebuild their lives in safety.

In 2014, Hogan Lovells expanded their pro bono partnership with Tahirih Justice Center, taking on complex cases that required extraordinary levels of sensitivity to ongoing client safety and social service needs, as well as cutting-edge legal matters. Associates and partners collaborated to help reunify and rebuild families that had been torn apart by gender-based violence by assisting with family reunification and permanent residence applications. Hogan Lovells also generously provided Tahirih with wide-ranging non-legal support, hosting receptions for Tahirih’s annual Bighearted Attorneys Campaign and donating space for staff development. Tahirih is incredibly grateful to the Hogan Lovells team for their outstanding leadership and generosity.

Venable LLP
In 2014, Venable expanded their pro bono partnership with Tahirih Justice Center, with more attorneys co-counseling cases with Tahirih’s Baltimore office than any other firm in Maryland. Venable Baltimore has increasingly taken on complex defensive asylum matters requiring multiple expert witnesses and interpreters. The firm has consistently gone above and beyond to support Tahirih Baltimore by hosting fundraising events for Tahirih, including a Donor Briefing in 2013, a Pearls for Women and Girls event in 2013, and a Bighearted Attorneys Campaign event in 2014. Tahirih is honored to recognize the Venable team for their outstanding leadership and generosity.
