Tahirih Justice Center celebrated the grand opening of its Houston office with an inaugural reception on Nov. 13. More than 130 members of the Houston community, including Houston corporate, nonprofit, academic, and religious leaders, welcomed Tahirih Houston at the reception.
The Houston office is Tahirih’s first pilot office, and its grand opening marks an important milestone in Tahirh’s national expansion plan to serve more immigrant women and girls.
Remarks at the reception were provided by the First Lady of Houston, Andrea White. Shell Oil Company and the Bridgeway Foundation were honored for their vital support in the opening of Tahirih Houston. Underwriters included Shell, Verse Consulting, Continental Airlines, Marty and Parvin McVey, Karen and John Hofmeister, and Dr. and Mrs. David Morgan Shin.
Tahirih was delighted to receive in-kind space from Jana Mullins for the event at a lovely residential venue located in downtown Houston. The Honorable Sheila Jackson Lee presented Tahirih with a Declaration of Support from her district.
Tahirih is committed to addressing the acute need for its services in Houston, and is looking forward to collaborating with dedicated advocates in the Houston metropolitan area.
