The Kentucky legislature has approved a bill to overhaul the state’s antiquated child marriage laws. The Tahirih Justice Center’s Senior Counsel for Policy and Strategy, Jeanne Smoot, spoke with NPR about this critical legislation, which is headed to the governor’s desk for signature.
“[Kentucky is] poised to leapfrog from having some of the most alarming provisions in the country to being a national leader in the fight to end child marriage,” Smoot told NPR.
