Kristin Bochicchio has served as the BP/ Arnold & Porter Equal Justice Works Fellow at Tahirih Houston for the last two years, helping more than 60 courageous women and girls access justice. Her fellowship ends this September, and she will be moving to San Francisco to continue her career in immigration law.
Q: What inspires you to come to work every day?
A: My clients inspire me to come to work every day. Through my Equal Justice Works Fellowship, I represent courageous African and Middle Eastern women who escaped horrific, unspeakable violence and are now rebuilding their lives in the United States. Their stories vary greatly—from a Tanzanian professor who was tortured for her opposition to FGM to an Ethiopian teenager forced into domestic servitude—but the common thread is my clients’ perseverance in the face of adversity.
Q: What is one thing you’d like supporters to know about our clients or organization?
A: I would like fellow attorneys at law firms and corporations to know that they can contribute substantially by representing a Tahirih client pro bono. When I explain what I do, I often hear attorneys express that they would like to participate in more meaningful work. They can! Pro bono attorneys are integral to the work we do at Tahirih.
Many thanks to BP and Arnold & Porter for their partnership, and to Kristin for her dedicated service!
