The American Bar Association Journal quoted Tahirih Senior Immigration Policy Counsel, Irena Sullivan, in an article about the new rule denying permanent legal residence (i.e. a green card) to immigrants who are deemed a “public charge.” Sullivan pointed out that this rule could severely harm immigrant survivors of gender-based violence by forcing them to remain dependent on their abusers.
