Bustle spoke to Tahirih Chief of Policy Archi Pyati about how the administration’s new policy effectively prevents refugees from seeking asylum in the United States. The policy would require many refugees to attempt to seek asylum in Mexico, and have their claims rejected, before they can seek asylum in the U.S.
Pyati explained that “The new rule would bar anyone — even if they fear persecution or have another legitimate reason to seek asylum — from beginning the asylum process.”
