On June 12, 2024, the Tahirih Justice Center and 46 national, statewide, and local organizations dedicated to supporting survivors of gender-based violence submitted a formal comment in response to the proposed rule by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This rule will significantly increase the risk that survivors face and make the asylum process even more arbitrary and unworkable than the status quo.
We urge the Administration to withdraw the proposed rule in its entirety and instead adopt humane and workable solutions to the humanitarian and operational challenges inherent in any asylum system.
