Tahirih’s Afghan Asylum Project was launched to support Afghan citizens who recently arrived in the United States. Our dedicated, toll-free helpline will connect Afghans seeking assistance with information, resources, and local organizations who are providing on-the-ground support.
In addition, trauma-informed Tahirih staff will be conducting legal screenings with anyone presenting gender-based asylum claims for potential legal representation by Tahirih staff and Tahirih’s pro bono network.

As some of you may know, Tahirih was a leader in the early 2000s in supporting Afghan women seeking protection in the U.S. We provided free legal services to over 100 women seeking asylum and supported refugees as they resettled here. Now, 20 years later, we are once again marshalling our resources to offer support.
At Tahirih, we believe we are one human family and that the welfare of each of us is inextricably bound to the welfare of all. When one part of that family is in crisis, those of us with the knowledge and resources to help must act.
