The Atlantic spoke with the Tahirih Justice Center’s Executive Director of the San Francisco office, Morgan Weibel, about her experience at the Port Isabel Detention Center in Los Fresnos, Texas, and at respite centers in McAllen. Weibal shared about providing legal aid to detained immigrants, as well as insights about the challenges families face as they seek reunification with their children.
“I don’t think I’ve ever eaten so little, slept so little, and worked so long before,” Weibel said.
Weibel explained that the legal process of reuniting families is different to what she’s seen during her time practicing immigration law.
