Skyler, a former client of Tahirih’s Forced Marriage Initiative and current survivor advocate, shared her story with the New York Times Upfront for a feature on child marriage in the United States.
In the article, which aims to educate young people about the issue of child marriage, Skyler courageously speaks out about being forced to marry a man twice her age when she was 16 years old.
“I was praying to myself, Please let someone stop this. Let someone call the police. He’s a grown adult, isn’t this obvious?” said Skyler.
