Layli Miller-MuroOn October 13, 2016, the Tahirih Justice Center celebrated an exciting milestone in its Ready to Soar Expansion Campaign – the opening of a fourth office in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Over 100 supporters attended a reception hosted by Arnold & Porter and Visa Inc., sharing their enthusiasm and commitment to helping Tahirih protect 250% more women and girls through expansion to five cities by 2017. We are thrilled and encouraged by their outpouring of support.

Emmy-nominated actress and humanitarian Eva LaRue, a devoted ambassador of Tahirih, served as emcee for the reception. It was a truly inspiring evening with speeches by Julie Rottenberg, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Visa; Doug Winthrop, Managing Partner of Arnold & Porter San Francisco; Layli Miller-Muro, CEO of the Tahirih Justice Center; and Morgan Weibel, Tahirih’s current Baltimore Executive Director and incoming Executive Director of the San Francisco Bay Area office.

Morgan Weibel

“It is an immense honor to work for an organization like Tahirih that is so exceptionally adept at facilitating trauma-informed legal representation,” Morgan said, “and I am excited to lead Tahirih’s next step in expansion as we work to elevate our clients voices throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.”

Today, Tahirih can only protect 1 in 6 women who reach out to us for help, but with the partnership of our incredible supporters across the country, our Ready to Soar campaign will enable us to double the reach of our lifesaving programs. The opening of our San Francisco Bay Area office is a major step towards reaching that goal. We look forward to partnering with the San Francisco Bay Area legal community to ensure that women and girls are able to access the justice they deserve.

Sponsors of this event included Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, Visa Inc., Arnold & Porter LLP, Vmware, Clorox, Cloudera, and HPE.
