The Washington Post highlighted historic Tahirih-drafted legislation that raises the minimum age of marriage in Virginia.
Tahirih Justice Center Senior Counsel for Policy and Strategy, Jeanne Smoot, spoke with The Washington Post about how this new legislation will not only protect vulnerable children from forced and coerced marriage in Virginia, but will also spark change across the country.
“We hope that legislators will see the efforts in Virginia as a wake-up call about how their laws can facilitate forced marriages of children,” Smoot shares.
